I recently went to Cochon, a pork-themed, French inspired BYO in Queen Village, and was pleasantly surprised with what I found. Be warned, it's cash only. Definitely worth a trip for those who aren't afraid of a little pork in their life. Jesus_the_Gardener
It was difficult to eat something with a face, except for bacon! *Chuck*
Does anyone hate these slide shows as much as I do? Just provide a frigging list. Are the people who build these pages happy with their work? Carmen Sense
Nugget: All of your suggested restaurants are chains, which may be okay for you. Not for me. montagcat
The three most intelligent land mammals Man, Chimpanzees, and Orangatangs are all Omnivores definitely not vegitarians. How do you think we got so smart? A great Porterhouse cooked Pittsburgh rare will make my day! bevejo2
Philly's 20 hottest restaurants should be just that - Philly only! City limits! Berwyn and Collingswood? Seems like you're throwing a (little) bone to your suburban readers. Doc Rob
Try..."Seasons 52"...reasonable prices and portions, Cherry Hill, Iron Hill Brrewery, Maple Shade, or Brio's, Promande in Marlton,...........Outstanding food at all three, easy parking at no cost to you....They will bring you back time and time again and you wont have to face the city parking and traffic or the "in" crowd uppity type....All are reasonable... nuggett
Good Food at affordable prices in even at this so called "high end places" Get on their mailing lists, use Open Table, take advantage of Restaurant Week,City Sips, cooking demos at hotels,Cook and the Book, and my favorite happy hour! For those that wanna fight about food remember,"What you eat don't make me fat!" Three pages of back and forth insults to people you don't know, can't see, or don't care about is a waste of space. vrb1955

As I read in the Daily Digest just the other day, for thousands of years man had perfect teeth, which is confirmed by remains. What changed? Man learned to farm instead of eating healhful dead meat, and the teeth started going away, as has our heath, we are not birds, we do not need an abundance of vegetables, just fatty meat, no to little carbs, and little processed stuff. Have a nice night. LJM

When did Ft. Washington and Berwyn become part of Philly? Philadelphians don't venture out to the suburbs for dinner if they don't have to. lkmiroslaw- The doughnuts at Federal are really just OK - plain, old fashioned deep fried doughnuts topped with "exotic" syrupy stuff. On the other hand, the fried chicken is to die for - lightly coated and fried, crisp and simply delicious. Don't bother with the powdered finishes - get it "naked".
If you want really good doughnuts, try the Donut Plant in NYC. - thanks for the tip. i'll jump in my car and drive 2 hours up to nyc to get one.
Zero - You must be in love with me. I am not felling you like that though.
MS. LOU.
Not in most people's budgets to blow a month's worth of grocery money on one sit-down meal. If it is, then you are one of the lucky few. LOL Tyrone Biggums Jr.
The food is crappy in Fishtown. Cheesesteaks and pizza is about all you are going to get. Plenty of booze though. jbetty01
Aaaaand...another off-topic post just to complain about something. Why doesn't that surprise me? Tatt2- This is fine of you have a few hundred bucks to blow on glorified digestibles. Once is slides past the taste buds it is a complete waste.
There are very very few restaurants with good food at decent prices for people who care more about food than about being seen at a "hot spot" intelliwoman
Bloody hunks of animal tissue make me sick. All the striated muscle and veins the ooze fluid as you slice through it. Look at that? It's so rare it's blue. Do yourself a favor and eat healthy alternatives to meat instead. You will look and feel much better. That meat is not healthy. MS. LOU.- Well, it's not my fault you are not normal and don't like delicious meat like 98% of us do...

I have a feeding tube. I wish there was list of the top-rated restaurants for people with feeding tubes. doctor72
Philly has some great places to eat and there is something for everyone. There are not too many cities with good eats outside of NY or New Orleans. I dare you to compare. NY wanna bees just move up there. streamerzzz
I am your consumate restraunteur. I know everything about food and dining. I have never been to Philadelphia, but these restaurants sound terrific. I like ostrich meat and zucchini. doctor72
Kraftwork sucks. FunCakes- @Stripes - there are so many places you never hear about (especially in this publication) that fit the bill of great food in the $20/entree range. Many of them are labeled gastropubs, which could be why. Sidecar, Devil's Den, Kraftwork, South Philly Taproom and Kite and Key are just a couple of the many places who employ up-and-coming chefs who are out to prove their chops (ncluding lamb and pork). Give them a try and you won't be disappointed. Most have great tap lists, too.
Also, Berwyn and Collingswood are not Philadelphia, thank you. stefek23 - You don't know what you're talking about. Every one of those restaurants you listed has been covered in this publication multiple times.

Three of these picks aren't even in Philly. Change the title of the piece to "20 of the hottest restaurants in the Philly area." daxtremesolja

A bunch of negative comments, who would have thunk it. I guess the biggest suprise is that there are only 8 so far. superturtle
Nectar is hit and miss. Had a great meal there first visit, and had one of the WORST meals of my life there on a second visit. The lobster they served on visit two was rubber, unchewable. So at their prices I'm afraid to go back. Will it be great or garbage? warrentheape
First of all, slide shows are slow and annoying so I didn't bother to click beyond the #1 (Barclay Prime). Secondly, the whole list is suspect if B-Prime is listed as "hot". B-Prime has not been "hot" for about 4 years now. You can walk in there any night without a reservation and get a table, (as long as it's not Penn Graduation weekend). #1 With A Bullet
I agree with the Moose. There's never anything about really good, affordable (i.e. entrees about $20) restaurants in the area-there's a LOT more to the Greater Philadelphia area than this food section ever seems to be bothered trying to find. How about some coverage of that? Stripes_55
Sorry Ms. Lou, but NOT all animals are created equal. Some are friends, some are food. And some are just annoying.... Stripes_55
After being in NY this weekend, I can say with all honesty that Philadelphia needs to step up its game and open more restaurants that cater to people who enjoy food more than just a "scene". Amen. The Moose is Loose- Agreed - Far too many restuarants in this city where a 28 year old "chef of the moment" opens a restaurant with no table covers, used, unmatched cheap dishes, silverware, small tables and uncomfortable chairs - paints the walls battleship gray, and proceeds to cook herb-encrusted chicken and plops it atop a mound of garlic potatoes that he / she makes by the bucket full and charge $24 for it. Add a half-dozen unskilled bohemian art-student waitstaff and they think they have a restaurant. Little Pete's does a much better job at comfort food than half these places, at half the prices, with far better service.
The dining public needs to demand more for their money and stop paying people to play chef. You could buy a roasted chicken for $7 that's good or better than 3/4th's of these "restaurants". PhillyDaniel

The Moose is Loose- Bloody rhetoric from a self-important vegetarian. Humans have hunted and eaten animals for thousands of years. Just like the rest of nature. jfogs1
- How do you know? How old are you? Have you been around for thousands of years? Don't believe everything you read. i love steak. I really like DelFrisco's.
doctor72
Bloody animal meat for self-important over indulgent pigs. Animals are our friends, not food. MS. LOU.- ...oh, and, NICE HAIR!
doctor72 - African Queen. Egyptian Royalty.
MS. LOU. - I didn't know you were a queen! Wow no wonder everyone is starving in Africa. The royaly won't let them eat meat. BTW, you look very snobby.
doctor72 - My look is not intended to be "snobby". I am in-the-know on a variety of subjects. Far away and visionary. I have many answers.
MS. LOU. - a vegetarian african queen...do they even have vegetables in africa? i think you're just mad that the restaurants here don't serve bush meat.
'far away and visionary'? i wish you were just far away.
Zero - Yeah right! tell that to the parents of the kid who got eaten by wild dogs at the zoo. It's time we turn on the animals and take back the planet!
doctor72
Philly needs more cheap dives with good food. too many pizza joints. how about good healthy food at the same price? high water- I hear you! Well, I mean "I read you." I guess what I am trying to say is that I agree with you. I respect your opinion and I echo your sentiments.
