Cook and Twenty Manning Grill - siblings on 20th Street in Rittenhouse - have organized three events to raise funds to help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
One hundred percent of money raised during the efforts will be donated directly to the Gawad Kalinga Fund, a poverty empowerment organization that is spearheading relief efforts on the ground.
Sunday, Nov. 24, from 4 p.m. till the drinks are gone at Twenty Manning Grill (261 S. 20th St.): Join general manager Jillian Encarnacion for a happy hour featuring $3 beers, $7 wines and select cocktails and $10 Filipino bites made by chef Lou Boquila of Audrey Claire. The bar staff is donating all tips from the evening, and bartender Resa Mueller has pledged all her Sunday-night tips through 2013.
Wednesday, Dec. 11, from noon till the drinks are gone at Cook (253 S. 20th St.): It's Filipino takeout time and Boquila will prepare "silog"-style boxed lunches, featuring a choice of beef, chicken, eggplant with eggs, fried rice, lumpia, flan and sago. Meals will be $12, first-come first-served. It's cash only.
Monday, Jan. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cook: Boquila, who has hosted three Filipino pop-ups at Cook, will cook a four-course modern Filipino meal, complete with beverage pairings, for $75 a head (tax and tip included). Three seatings, at 5, 7 and 9 p.m.. Menu and reservation info will be available soon via audreyclairecook.com.
