Great beer bars, by the numbers

POSTED: Thursday, March 21, 2013, 3:13 PM

Zagat Survey, which collects data from Philly restaurant patrons, crunched the numbers on joints that specialize in beer.

Zagat editors put together this list, aiming it for "beer nerds." Where possible, you'll see the scores on Zagat's 30-point scale.

To see more info, go here for the story.

    "...am i mistaken?"

Well, you're pointless, and humorless. Does that count?

yourmom. You sound like you were bullied. Sorry about that. I think the frat boys that you point at -- from a safe distance -- brag about the quantity of their beer consumption, not the quantity.

I've visited most of the places on the list. None of them can hold a candle to Grey Lodge. It's a true neighborhood joint in a city of neighborhoods with great food and great beer.

I live half the year in Belgium, and Eulogy is in fact a typical Flemish bruincafe: great beer-list, sort of run down, and spotty table service. I love it (but it is understandably expensive).

Grey Lodge. Like a magnet for all of the ugly people. They thereby do a great service for the rest of us.

I have always hated these idiot lists. Either a place is worth visiting or it is not. "By the numbers" further idiotizes things. I have been to any number of places on Zagat Survey's various lists, and have almost invariably found that relying on Zagat leads to disappointment and wasted money! They should find a new line of work! But, idiot editors with no clue will continue to pay for their garbage!

What, no Kellis'? Me and my pop have been going there for PBR before these hipsters could spell PBR. If you go say hi to my grandmom hanging out front.

Except for the Belgium Cafe, they won't fill growlers. How could any bar be a great beer bar that not respect the growler tradition? This is where all great beer bars got their DNA.

I like beer. Not the point. However, this website has turned into complete garbage. To put this story on the front page and portray it as a highlight story is a disgrace. This newspaper website has turned into blogging central. This is the last straw for me. I will not be coming here anymore for news and I would suggest anyone with a half of a brain cell to follow suit.

Lighten up, Roy. This website is multi-faceted entertainment, with a Philly flair. Just a range of different things we might enjoy reading, including the news. The news, btw, is really just a form of entertainment. Most of it has no direct bearing on our lives, and we'd be better off by screening most of it out. Prost!
