45 chefs to gather for Great Chefs Event

Among the new participating chefs this year are David Chang of Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssam Bar, Ma Peche and others (NYC and elsewhere) and Robert Irvine, host of the Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible and Worst Cooks in America.

Four dozen top chefs will convene in Philadelphia for the 11th annual Great Chefs Event on June 14, which is now sold out.

The event, hosted by the Vetri Family restaurants and Vetri Community Partnership, again will benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and Vetri Community Partnership.

The event, featuring food and drink stations and a lively, foodie-centric auction, again will be held at the Navy Yard, at the corporate campus of Urban Outfitters - the new corporate owner of most of the Vetri restaurants.

Among the new participating chefs this year are David Chang of Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssam Bar, Ma Peche and others (NYC and elsewhere) and Robert Irvine, host of the Food Network's Restaurant: Impossible and Worst Cooks in America.

Returning chefs include Michael Symon (co-host of The Chew), Paul Kahan (of Blackbird, avec, The Publican and Big Star in Chicago), and for the first time since 2009, Food Network star Bobby Flay of Bobby's Burger Palace (19 locations across 11 states).

Besides Shook and Dotolo, several of this year's participating chefs were finalists in the 2016 James Beard Foundation Awards, including Rising Star Chef of the Year finalist Matt Rudofker (Momofuku Ssam Bar, NYC), who will be featured alongside David Chang, and regional Best Chefs finalists Michael Cimarusti (Connie & Ted's, LA), Andy Ticer & Michael Hudman (Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, Memphis), Greg Vernick (Vernick, Philadelphia), and Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto, NYC).

Among the representatives of bars, wineries, and craft breweries are Neal Bodenheimer (of Cure in New Orleans, which was recently named a James Beard Foundation Awards finalist for its Outstanding Bar Program), Naren Young (Fork and Shaker), and Jesse Vida (The Dead Rabbit, NYC).

The after party at Lo Spiedo will grant access to VIP ticketholders and sponsors, who can eat barbecue from chef Adam Perry Lang and food from Michael Solomonov (who will be representing Federal Donuts).

Last year, the Great Chefs Event raised nearly $800,000.

Though it's sold out, you can bid on cool auction items, including tickets to Eagles training camp and a restaurant review tag-along with The Inquirer's Craig LaBan.
