It turns out the American people can have White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s “alternative facts” and drink them, too, thanks to one Delaware County brewery.
Delco’s 2SP Brewing Company next week will release its Alternative Facts beer, a blonde stout brew made with vanilla, cocoa nibs, and coffee beans that weighs in ab about 7 percent ABV. The “alternative” comes in the form of head brewer and owner Bob Barrar’s decision to not use roasted malt in the brew, which typically gives stouts their signature dark color.
The result is a brew with every bit as much flavor as a classic stout, but the color of a golden ale. Because in today’s socio-political climate, reality as we’ve come to know it means very little.
The move, of course, is an intentional one from Barrar, who was Iron Hill Brewery’s most medal-winning brewer (19 GABF medals overall) before moving on to start 2SP. Barrar developed Iron Hill’s popular Russian Imperial Stout, and adapted the recipe to 2SP with The Russian (which medaled at GABF last year), so the man knows stouts.
Alternative Facts will become available in the Philadelphia area the week of March 20. Locations announced to be receiving the brew include the following:
- Johnny Brenda's
- Local 44
- Standard Tap
- City Tap House
- Butcher Bar
- Bottle Bar East
- Pinocchio's in Media
- Beer Love
- Industry Bar
The beer itself takes its name from a statement Kellyanne Conway made on CNN in January regarding President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Conway at the time had said press secretary Sean Spicer provided “alternative facts” regarding the number of people who viewed the inauguration, with Spicer claiming it as the most-watched inauguration ever.
Barrar’s Alternative Facts will likely be a little more convincing. And it’ll probably taste better, too.
