Craftsman Row Saloon celebrates one year with burger, shake eating contest

If burgers and shakes are your thing (and they should be), look no further than Craftsman Row Saloon (112 S. 8th St.) this weekend.

The Jeweler’s Row restaurant has been slinging American classics and bar bites for a year now, and they will be celebrating on Saturday with a burger-and-shake eating competition benefitting Philabundance, as well as a day of $1 specials.

Taking place Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m., the competition will pit 24 contestants against one another in a race to take down a Birthday Burger and Brotherly Love Shake fastest. It might sound easy, but...

The Birthday Burger is a special creation for the restaurant’s one-year anniversary, and is stacked high with multiple patties, melty cheese, and more bacon than is reasonable. The Brotherly Love Shake, meanwhile, is a vanilla shake garnished with a Tastykake Kandy Kake, a Tastykake cupcake, one Peanut Chew, and a pretzel — plus some whipped cream for good measure.

The contestant who finishes their burger and shake fastest wins the grand prize of a free burger and shake from Craftsman Row every month for a year. Entry is $20, and those interested can enter by emailing info@craftsmanrowsaloon.com with the subject line “burger competition,” along with their name and phone number.

If stuffing yourself on monster-sized burgers and shakes isn’t your thing, the restaurant hosts a day of $1 specials today. The $1 menu is as follows:

  • Select draft beers and whiskey shots
  • Brisket Mac & Cheese shooter
  • Cauliflower Buffalo Wings
  • Chicken Croquettes
  • Chili Chip Nachos
  • Red Velvet Cheesecake

Owners George and Vasiliki Tsiouris opened Craftsman Row Saloon in December last year after buying out Coco’s, a Jeweler’s Row institution that wrapped a 30-year run in business in the summer of 2015. The pair currently also operate Opa and Drury Beer Garden (1311 Sansom St.), also in Washington Square West.
