Have some Cherry Cola Mayonnaise Sauerkraut Chocolate Cake?

April Fool’s Day brings out the best in all of us, and home cooks are no exception.

On Saturday, if someone innocently offers you a hunk of delicious-looking chocolate cake, by all means try it. It very well might be Cherry Cola Mayonnaise Sauerkraut Chocolate Cake, whose recipe has made the rounds over the years. The baker is looking for your reaction.

Wait what. Cherry Cola Mayonnaise Sauerkraut Chocolate Cake?

Does Cherry Cola Mayonnaise Sauerkraut Chocolate Cake sound tasty?

As food writer Marlene Parrish of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette explains, the cake works because of sheer chemistry: "Mayo stands in for oil or butter, sauerkraut adds a coconut-like texture and cola adds fizz, giving a boost in lightness along with a punch of flavor."

Parrish, who enjoyed the cake she baked, went one step further and emailed the recipe developer, Rozanne Gold to ask: "Why?"

“As a kind of relief from the seriousness of the kitchen and the projects we work on, unusual recipes have always struck my fancy,” Gold said.
