Alex Boonphaya (Circles Thai) and Peter Woolsey (Bistrot La Minette) are working on a six-course Thai New Year dinner on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Circles location at 812 N. Second Street in Northern Liberties.

Thai New Year is Tuesday, April 15, but chefs Alex Boonphaya (Circles Thai) and Peter Woolsey (Bistrot La Minette) decided to start the celebration early with this collaboration:

A Thai New Year Knife Fight will be a six-course Thai New Year dinner on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Circles location at 812 N. Second St. in Northern Liberties.

The chefs were planning on teaming up for a collaboration when Boonphaya suggested they let the guests decide who prepares better Thai dishes. An admitted fan of Thai cuisine who's always up for some friendly competition, Woolsey jumped at the opportunity to compete with Boonphaya and let 40 guests decide whose dishes pack more punch.

The format: Each chef will prepare two savory courses and a dessert, and the guests will rate each dish on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 representing the most delicious. The chef whose dishes score the highest points wins. Guests will not know which chef conceived which dish until after the ballots are tabulated and the winner is announced. The winning chef receives a Korin Japanese chef knife and bragging rights.

Here's the menu:

Tom Yam Soup - Spicy and sour soup with prawns, clams and squid

Kanom Buang - Crispy Thai turmeric crepe with minced prawns, peanuts and bean sprouts, served with a sweet chili sauce
