Chefs and growers meet at PHeaSt

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society will match local growers and chefs for the fourth annual PHeaSt on Friday, Oct. 16 at the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia, home of the prop warehouse from the Philadelphia Flower Show.

The nighttime party, sponsored by Subaru and Accenture, is a benefit for the society's City Harvest program, which provides locally grown food for families in need.

Guests go from table to table to sample food, chat with the chefs, and get gardening tips from the growers. Among the new culinary partners this year are Vedge and Fitler Dining Room.

Garden partners include Agaston Urban Nutrition Initiative (UNI), Bubbe's Backyard and Moore, Chester County Food Bank Farm, Earthskeepers, East Park Revitalization Alliance (EPRA), Farm 51 & Chicory Florals, Germantown Kitchen Garden, Liberty Lands Community Garden, Nationalities Services Center's Growing Home Garden and Growing Together Garden, PHS City Harvest/PPS, Port Kensington Gardens, Southwark Queen Village Community Garden, Summer-Winter Garden, and Weavers Way Co-op Farm.

General admission tickets are $165 (PHS members $150). VIP tickets are $300 (PHS members $275) and include early admission at 6 p.m., an hour before the official opening.
