Caribbean Cuisine Week helps student-athletes in town for Penn Relays

A runner speeds around the track in the 4 x 100 heats at the Penn Relays Friday April 24, 2015.

Enjoy Caribbean and Latin-inspired food and drinks?

Your hunger and thirst may help more than 700 high school athletes from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent, and the Bahamas who are coming to Philadelphia later this month for the Penn Relays.

For the 12th annual Caribbean Cuisine Week (CCW) - being held April 13 to 15 - local restaurants create special dishes. Proceeds go to the Young Caribbean Professional Network, which sets up the kids with ground transportation, three hot meals a day, emergency medical, and other hospitality services.

CCW's lead sponsor, Rob DeAbreu of Sabriná's Cafe, was born on St. Kitts.

Zavino University City, also a sponsor, will host the kick-off event on April 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Participating restaurants include Sabrinás Cafe Italian Market, as well as Sabriná’s Cafe & Spencer’s Too, Sabriná’s Cafe@Powelton, Sabriná’s Cafe Wynnewood, Sabriná’s Cafe Collingswood, Zavino University City,  48th Street Grille, Reef Restaurant & Lounge, and Mixto.
