Get it while it's hot: Bún bò huế at Same Same

'King soup' is meant to be eaten with chopsticks in one hand and a soup spoon in the other.

People drive miles for bún bò huế - or bun bo hue, if you're not all fancy with the Vietnamese characters - the spicy beef soup with rice noodles.

Chad Kubanoff has just added his own version to the menu at Same Same, his Vietnamese BYOB at 614 N. Second St. It starts Thursday, Nov. 19; he'll serve it till it runs out each day.

Bun bo hue - say it "bun bo hway" - translates as "king soup."

Kubanoff simmers his with pork and beef bones flavored with pineapple sate (a lemongrass and chili mixture), fermented shrimp paste, and lemongrass.

It's served with pork sausage, sliced beef shanks, banana flower, water spinach, herbs and thick rice noodles.

You eat it with chopsticks in one hand, soup spoon in the other. Eighteen bucks for two.
