Brooklyn Brewery returns to Philly for third annual Brooklyn Mash series

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 17, New York City's own Brooklyn Brewery will set up shop in Philadelphia for a weeklong set of tap takeovers, beer dinners, and beer-ducational events concluding on Oct. 24.

That's right: This year's Brooklyn Mash series is nearly upon us.

It's all kicking off Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m with a special welcoming concert at the TLA (334 South St.) featuring experimental dance rockers Man Man and Prince Rama. Available Brooklyn brews for this one are somewhat limited, but include Brooklyn Lager and East IPA. Entry into the event is free with required RSVP.

That Sunday, Oct. 18 will be a little more subdued, with Brooklyn heading out to the Plymouth Meeting Whole Foods (500 W. Germantown Pike) for an educational sampling event beginning at 10 a.m. Leading that event will be Brooklyn Brewery chef Andrew Gerson, who will pair several of the company's beers alongside snacks featuring Cholula Hot Sauce.

Things will pick back up the evening of Oct. 18, with Chef Gerson heading back to Philly to host a DIY Dinner Party at Reading Terminal Market (51 N. 12th St.) beginning at 5 p.m. Essentially a cooking class mixed with a dinner party and, of course, beer tasting, the event will teach guests how to prepare four different dinner dishes, as well as how to pair those dishes with the perfect Brooklyn brew. Tickets for the event run $30, and entry includes a family-style meal.

On Monday, Oct. 19, Brooklyn Brewery will focus its sights on fashion with a little help from Timberland. Beginning at 6 p.m. at the Timberland Store (1709 Walnut St.), the event will serve as a curated beer tasting in combination with a fashion show showing off Timberland's 2015 collection. Beer lovers, however, can rejoice, as Brooklyn will be pouring Insulated Lager, their newest seasonal brew, that evening.

The following day, Tuesday, Oct. 20, Brooklyn Brewery will host a Tap Attack with food pairings at Heritage (914 N. 2nd St.) beginning at 6 p.m. Known as "Funk Feast," the event will show off "the weird and wild sides of food and beer." To that end, Brooklyn's brews will meet a specially prepared Heritage menu, all while a little funk music plays throughout the restaurant.

A second Tap Attack, or tap takeover, will go down the following day, Wednesday, Oct. 21. Featuring a full lineup of rare and unique beers from Brooklyn's personal cellars, this is one that can't be missed for aficionados of the brewery's offerings. The tapping will take place upstairs at Good Dog Bar and Restaurant (224 S. 15th St.) beginning at 6 p.m.

If Tap Attacks aren't your thing, have no fear: Brooklyn will also be appearing at World Café Live (3025 Walnut St.) for the Found Footage Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 21. There, attendees will be able to take in some off-the-wall video presentations while enjoying a vintage selection of Brooklyn beers, which includes selections like Monster Ale and Black Chocolate Stout. Tickets run $12, and are available here.

Beer then takes center stage again on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. with Brooklyn's "State of Craft Beer" address at St. Benjamin Brewing (1710 N. 5th St.), featuring special appearances from Dogfish Head's Sam Calagione, St. Benjamin's Christina Burris, and Daniel LaBert of Brewers of PA. Brooklyn Brewery co-founder Steve Hindy will moderate the event's discussion, which will deal with some of the issues brewers face in the industry today. Tickets are $6.

Friday, Oct. 23 brings Brooklyn's Secret Supper in collaboration with Dinner Lab, which kicks of at 7 p.m. at a as-yet-undisclosed location. Chef Andrew Gerson will team up with Dinner Lab for a pop-up dining event that includes a multi-course menu paired with rare Brooklyn brews. Plus, a local, equally as-yet-unannounced band will be providing tunes. Tickets are not yet on sale, but are priced at $70 to $80. The event's location will be announced two days before it begins.

The ultimate event, however, is saved for Brooklyn's final day in town. On Saturday, Oct. 24, they'll host a get-together dubbed "Three Headed Beast," which begins at 3 p.m. at Alla Spina (1410 Mt. Vernon St.). Featuring Alla Spina's chef Brad Spence and another unnamed chef alongside Brooklyn's chef Gerson, the event aims to provide attendees with a massive fall feast paired with great Brooklyn brews. Tickets are on sale now, and run $35.
