Ambler brewery’s beer listed among best saisons on Earth

It seems that spring has sprung, and that means one thing to craft beer enthusiasts: Belgian-style saisons, and lots of them. Lucky for us, we’ve apparently got one of the best brews on the planet right in our own back yard.

It seems that spring has sprung, and that means one thing to craft beer enthusiasts: Belgian-style saisons, and lots of them. Lucky for us, we've apparently got one of the best brews on the planet right in our own back yard.

Bloomberg this week rounded up the world's best Belgian-style saisons for a listicle on the subject, placing Ambler brewery Forest & Main's Hapi third on the list. It appears just behind Saison Dupont, which has been in production since around 1844, and is largely considered a standard for the style.

Judging from Bloomberg's description, however, Hapi fits right in there:

Forest & Main is releasing some of the most engaging farmhouse beers in the U.S., balancing the tightrope of historical inspiration and contemporary experimentation. Their frequent bottled releases are always a treat for the palate and eyes in equal measure, adorned with lovingly illustrated label artwork. Of their recent releases, Hapi is a particularly enjoyable dry-hopped/barrel-aged saison—a turbid, fruit-forward delight.

The beer world at large seems to agree, with RateBeer showing a score of 99 out of 100 overall for Hapi. To create Hapi, Forest & Main brewers dry hop the brew, and age the beer in oak barrels.

Interestingly, Allagash Brewing Company will be in town this Saturday, March 12 to celebrate "Saison Day" at City Tap House Logan from 1 to 5 p.m. Forest & Main will be on-hand for the day's festivities, so keep a lookout to get your hands on some Hapi.
