Great Chefs Event raises $800,000

Organizers say that June 9's edition of the Great Chefs Event - a benefit for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation & the Vetri Foundation for Children, raised more than $800,000, topping their goal.

In all, 1,200 people, aided by 250 volunteers, filled the Urban Outfitters headquarters at the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. 6ABC’s Alicia Vitarelli and Marc Summers hosted, with speeches from Jeff Benjamin, Vetri Family Restaurants and Vetri Foundation co-founder, and Liz Scott, who co-executive director of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Some of the most popular dishes of the night included Charles Phan’s gau choy gau (shrimp & watercress dumpling), Masaharu Morimoto’s hamachi, soba & black barley, corn, pickled red onion & miso, and Nancy Silverton + Dahlia Narvaez butterscotch budino with rosemary pine nut cookies.

The live auction brought in $72,000, including a culinary tour of Northern Italy for six people led by Marc Vetri and Jeff Michaud ($21,000). Also, Vetri Family chefs Brad Spence and Jeff Michaud, who have a friendly fundraising rivalry going, are both claiming victory. While the winning bid for Spence’s “Beast of Amis” in-home dinner for 10 was $14,000, Michaud’s Bergamascan feast featuring his mother-in-law, Mama Pina, sold for $10,000, but it sold twice. 

The silent auction raised nearly $100,000.
