Some Morum Santorum

Rick Santorum

People get the impression that the Daily News and the Inquirer are adversaries.  In a way, they are.  They compete for your attention, your money, your loyalty.

It’s not exactly the Capulets vs. the Montagues.  It’s more like Felix Unger vs. Oscar Madison.

But as someone who writes for the Daily News, I can say that one of the finest journalists/editors/writers I’ve ever come across lives across the street, at Felix’s house.

His name is Kevin Ferris.  And yesterday’s column about Rick Santorum is just another reason why he shines through the darkness.  His piece is a poke in the hypocritical eye of those on the right and the left who either underestimate or lie about our former senator.

The guys on the right don’t like him because they think he’ll take votes away from whatever “Obama killer” the GOP can finally mount.

And the left, well, they’ve hated him from Day One because he speaks a foreign language, one they could never hope to understand.

Kevin uses the candidate’s own words to explain why he was embraced by Iowans.  And it has nothing at all to do with being lily-white, or evangelical.  This kind of journalism deserves the Pulitzer.  But don’t hold your breath.   It’s usually the people who traffic in defamation of conservative character, like the Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson, who get that prize.

And speaking of Mr. Robinson and his antics, I’d also like to give a shout out to two of the regular posters here, retour and thoughtfulandconcernedvoter, who sent me this link to a Mark Steyn article about how grotesque the social liberals (and some moderates) have become.  It’s one thing to call a guy ‘weird’ because he wears sweater vests.  It’s quite another to mock the way he chooses to grieve for his dead child.
