The USS Arizona

Perhaps it’s unfair (and frankly, all comparisons are.)

Perhaps it’s not necessary (and what, except chocolate, is?)

Perhaps it’s not relevant (although in a world that contains both Sarah Palin and Nancy Pelosi, relevance is relative…)

But I can’t help thinking on this December 7th, the 70th Anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, that the young men and women who lived in that time, and sacrificed blood, treasure and futures for their nation, were the last of a breed.

They've rightly been called the greatest generation, and those who followed, the ones who set up camps in parks and other public places complaining about what the government hasn’t done for them, are sorry inheritors of an honorable legacy.

To those who died, and those who survived (dwindling now in number) my eternal gratitude.
