I probably shouldn't take seriously anyone who starts his name with a question mark.  I mean, even when Prince exhanged roman numerals for that bizarre "The artist formerly know as" symbol, he kept it simple and ditched the letters.

But I couldn't let what Philly's troubador did this week slip by without comment.  As pretty much everyone who pays attention to these things knows by now, Mr. Love and the other Punctuation Marks that make up his group are the  house band for Jimmy Fallon's late night show.

Fallon hosted Michelle Bachmann as a guest Monday night.  She did a great job parrying with the host and showing she is not only witty, but has her wits about her.

The problem wasn't the host.  It was the band, which introduced the presidential candidate with the song "Lyin' A-- Bitch."

I have no problem with people making fun of Michelle Bachmann.  She sometimes brings it on herself, as does President Obama, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Barney Frank, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Herman Cain and a host of other luminaries.

But this was misogyny, the kind that gets lobbed at certain women, mostly conservative, mostly attractive.  (Nancy Pelosi is the only liberal female I know of who gets the same kind of treatment from her political opponents.)

If Mr. Question Mark thinks he gained any points on the "Hip Meter" with that stunt, he's wrong.  If anything, he's a classless, albeit talented, boor.

Hi Magistra. I am back. You said, "I do not condemn anyone for an opinion that is different from mine." What does that have to do with my point? Nothing. So, chat away and have fun.

I said Hamblin needs to learn how to respect people. In this instance, Bachmann. I called him a last class A-hole. That is my opinion. According to you people are entitled to their opinion. Over and out.

BTW, thanks for the well wishes. I had a wonderful time.

Look at Hamblin's post to retour. Hambone is finally beginning to wise up. Maybe he is at last past the giggling stage with his pals. Miracles do happen. This would be one. Go for it Hambone. Try out some manners. You may get to like it. A first for you. But as far as cogent posts, your logic stinks. (Just some manners I had learned from you, A**) Remember that one. One of your more cogent remarks.

I REALLY WANT TO BE CLEAR.

What irks me about Hamlin is NOT his negative posts about Paterno and the PSU students and his nonsense about idolatry. But when I challenged him on the idolatry nonsense, he ran away, ran down the street, ran home to his mommy and refused to respond. He said, "I could not care less."

Now he condemns Bachmann who is figuratively a hundred fold more man than Hamblin.

I take no issue with his right to an opinion. I do take issue when he refuses to defend his opinion. I REALLY WANT TO BE CLEAR.

Retour. may I respond to your question in your post of 7:41?

Is it mysogyny to criticize a woman's physical appearance? And why is it any different for a man?

OK some insults can be sexist, usually when the slur applies to one gender more than another. Saying for example, that a woman is "too emotional" is a direct attack on her mental stability. Remember how Hillary Clinton was criticized immediately for shedding a tear during a campaign appearance...as if to suggest that she could not control her feelings, probably because she was in some kind of menopausal episode.

The old instability argument has often been used to disqualify women from ever seeking political office.

Calling a woman "ugly" is somewhat sexist because it suggests that her physical unattractiveness detracts from her desirability. A man can be ugly or fat and still be manly.

But of course, neither physical attractiveness nor strong feelings have anything to do with a person's qualifications to hold public office.

Intelligence and the ability to think analytically do matter in choosing a president. Michele Bachman can certainly be criticized for her shallow command of facts and inability to argue her points without a prepared speech.

What they did to her on the Fallon show may or may not have been mysogynist but it certainly was a terrible way to greet a guest no matter who it was.

retour, I have a question for you. To quote Magistra, "Intelligence and the ability to think analytically do matter in choosing a president."

Why did she then vote for Obama?

Mags believes in the federal government and shares many of the Bamster's values. (for e.g., social justice.) In such circumstances, Barry's complete lack of qualifications, radical affiliations, and Black Liberation Theology apparently made no difference to her. Additionally, according to The Little Red Schoolhouse herself, McCain is a war monger.

PJ, why can't you address me directly with your question? When Obama was running for president, he engaged in debates with his rivals. I may not have agreed with all his positions (I wanted Hillary), but he was certainly able to discuss intelligently such things as the economy, health care, and foreign policy without groping for words or forgetting his platform. In debates, remember, there are no teleprompters.

I looked at McCain's positions on education, the wars and entitlements and compared them to Obama's. Obama promised to bring the wars to a halt and to get OBL. He kept his word on OBL but he is only sticking to the planned withdrawal promised by GW. I liked his health plan ideas. I do not approve of his handling of education.

McCain wanted to extend the wars, privatize education (anathema to me) and cut entitlements. His choice of a history and geography challenged running mate was a negative also.

Michele Bachman's ideas for the economy, foreign policy and entitlements frankly scare me. And she has such a shallow grasp of history, I am surprised you boys are not on her about it.

Actually, I think the best candidate to oppose Obama is Huntsman. I approve of his positions on most things and he is also pro-life. He makes the most sense when he says to bring the troops home now from Afghanistan. He beats by a mile the others who cannot even remember the details of their own platforms.

So who is your choice to beat Obama? And why?

Magistra; Your litany of complaints against Republican candidates cannot be taken seriously. Let me be emphatic about this: you voted for Barack Hussein Obama, a grossly underexperienced clueless leftist. The result: 10% unemployment and 15 trillion in debt. Nonetheless, no matter who the Republicans nominate, you will vote for him again! Please spare us your "analysis" of the candidates and Republican field. Huntsman is a non-entity. No one would even show up to vote for him.

with 9.1% unemployment, it is highly unlikely BHO can carry ANY of the battleground states, which is to say he will lose: PA, OH, VA, WI, NC, NH, CO, NE and FL. So, either Romney would win easilly, or Newt in a slightly closer election. No incumbent president has ever won reelection with unemployment this high, and no upward trends. If it is a Romney landslide, due to BHOs economic incompetance, Republicans will also regain the senate majority.

"PJ, everyone deserves some respect, as humans and as members of a class."

Plumber: going forward, I am going to highlight Magistra's deeply ingrained socialist preaching as "Lessons from the Little Red School House." (LFLRS) What does it mean to say that someone deserves respect as "members of a class?" This is a thought that would not even occur to someone who was not clearly of the far left. You and I for example would never suggest that someone needed to be acknowledged or even regarded as a member of some class. I think it is informative that such thinking comes straight from a member of the teacher's union.

Magistra; for our edification, would you care to explain precisely what being the member of a class means to you? What class of persons am I a member of?

Now to Hamblin, directly. You can offer whatever excuses you care to, but you cannot escape.

Lesson #1. Everyone's opinion is welcome. But opinion alone is meaningless. You must be able to explain and justify your opinion with facts and correct logic before it becomes meaningful.

Lesson #2 will follow after you show effort at Lesson #1. Don't hide behind the skirts of the ladies.

Magistra asks, "PJ, why can't you address me directly with your question?"

And I reply, Magistra, I am following the technique of Richard.

However, as you can see, above, I have complied with your suggestion and asked him directly. There is no likelihood he will stop playing his puerile game and answer me directly.

retour, it had not occurred to me until now, but in looking over Hamblin's expressions I detect several that are frequently use by homosexuals. Not that homosexuals are any different than anyone else and should be treated as one would treat anyone else. But things are what they are. Rather than affront anyone, I will not single out the expressions in question.
