Just shut up, and grab a latte

I’ve had a problem with those captured American hikers for a while. From the first moment that I heard they’d been traipsing around near the Iranian border for an enriching experience (no Mediterranean cruise for these Berkley grads,) I was angered that they put the United States in the untenable position of having to deal for their lives. Of course, we didn’t officially ransom their sorry little derrieres, although someone did. But they made us vulnerable at a volatile moment, particularly as the Arab Spring was blooming across the Middle East.

Next time, try Walt Disney World

I’ve had a problem with those captured American hikers for a while.  From the first moment that I heard they’d been traipsing around near the Iranian border for an enriching experience (no Mediterranean cruise for these Berkley grads,) I was angered that they put the United States in the untenable position of having to deal for their lives.  Of course, we didn’t officially ransom their sorry little derrieres, although someone did.  But they made us vulnerable at a volatile moment, particularly as the Arab Spring was blooming across the Middle East.

I, for one, did not cheer their release.  Sure, it’s nice that some foolish American citizens are home.  But they’re not heroes, and they certainly aren’t symbols of anything other than their own stupidity.

Which is why I’d hoped they’d have the good grace to just sink into anonymity.

Foolish me.  These three can’t be embarrassed.

Just this week, they decided to add their voices to those of the 99% in California, the Occupy Whatever movement.  I almost lost my breakfast when I heard Shane Bauer state, and I’m paraphrasing here, that gladdened his heart to come home to the country at a time when the people were beginning to wake up and demand justice (or a free ride, and some donations…)

Can’t wait to see them at the next Tea Party rally, then.

But I’m not holding my breath.
