Cheech & Chong: No Stoner Unturned

Far out, man! After a 25-year hiatus, Cheech & Chong, the inimitable stoner duo -- architects of the weed comedy -- are reuniting for a comedy tour, Hey, What's That Smell?

I've been thinking of C & C a lot, as I just considered the history of the stoner movie and realized that without Cheech & Chong, there would not be Bill & Ted, Wayne & Garth, Beavis & Butthead, Jay and Silent Bob, Harold & Kumar or Dale & Saul -- the wasted heroes of Pineapple Express, which opens August 6.

One of the many reasons I'm fond of stoner comedies -- as rich a genre as slapstick -- is that the altered-state comedy, which has been with us since the Greeks wrote plays about drunks occasions great physical comedy and visual jokes.
