Ref to McCoy: I need you for my fantasy team

POSTED: Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 9:21 AM

The NFL replacement referees have been getting a lot of bad press so far this season. I won't say they've been bad, but I've actually found myself missing Ed Hochuli.

So when I came across this nugget this morning, I had to pass it along. Apparently, replacement refs are just fans, and one even told LeSean McCoy that he needed the Eagles running back to play well....for his fantasy team!

This from Spike Eskin over at CBSPhilly:

“They’re like fans, kind of though,” McCoy said. “I’ll be honest, they’re like fans. One of the refs was talking about his fantasy team, like ‘McCoy, come on, I need you for my fantasy,’ ahhh, what?!”

Maybe the way to get the edge in fantasy this season is to find out which players the referees have on their team...

Funny , But wouldn't a ref like that be more likely NOT to throw a flag on the eagles for lets say holding , on a Shady TD ?

The replacement refs gotta go. This is another example showing that these guys aren't professional, and shouldn't be in the NFL. Plays are going on far too long, and should be whistled dead alot earlier. I don't remember seeing so much pushing and fighting after plays. Someone is going to get hurt. I wont even get into the horrible calls and delays in all the games. If Goodell talks about the integrity of the game and not wanting to tarnish the "shield" of the NFL, he'd better get a deal done now!

After the scandal with the gambling NBA referee, you would think that the NFL wouldn't resort to throwing any old warm bodies out on the field to ref. And the Players Union could have avoided this entire fiasco if they had honored the real referee's strike and refused to play with these bogus refs on the field. Guess that a 1%ers union is in name only.

hope that ref will spot mccoy an extra yard or 2 after each of his runs.
someone convince him to play vick as his starting qb.

The NFL dispute with the refs isn't going to end until the refs give in. Why would the NFL and Roger Goodell give in? What incentive do they have? As long as we, the fans, are willing to watch games with the replacement refs the TV ratings will be good. And if the ratings continue to be good we may never see Ed Hochuli in zebra stripes again!

NFL is on its way to being a joke- bounties, steroids, replacement refs, lockouts.... 30 years and this league will be the new NHL.

It would be interesting to see someone compile the credentials of the replacement refs. They seem decent but you can tell teams & players are beginning to take advantage of the refs being rookies.

The Owners are using these Scabs to break the Union. The Game is suffering. I don't think that's fair to the paying fans. This is turning into a circus. NFL Tickets cost to much for unprofessional-ism where integrity needs to be stellar.

And BTW, what luck for all of us that Howard Eskin has propagated another generation of his lineage. As if we hadn't already had quite enough of the Eskin way -- rude, willfully ignorant, toadying. And should I assume that Spike's job at CBS -- Spike? Really? -- was earned on merit alone?

I might be in the minority but I think football is more entertaining with the replacement Ref's. The games have an edge to them and it’s more intense. Some holding and a bit more grabbing but overall it’s a better flowing product.
