All five of tonight's screenings of the official Phillies World Series film are sold out. What they are calling the "red carpet" event at The Bridge Cinema De Lux, 4012 Walnut St., in Philly, is out of tickets. Those cost attendees $25, and not only will gain them access to the screening and to a chance to rub elbows with a number of Phillies players and executives, but will also provide them with a complimentary DVD copy of the film to take home.

The four other screenings, for $10 apiece, also are sold out. Those are being held at  Bala Theatre 3, Bala Cynwyd, PA.; Montgomeryville 10, Landsale, Pa.; Anthony Wayne Theatre 5, Wayne, Pa.; and Showcase at The Ritz Center 16, Voorhees, N.J.

The DVD is scheduled to be released tomorrow and a Blu-Ray version for high-definition will come out Dec. 16.

The so called red carpet screening was a complete rip off & a joke. I expected seeing members of the Phillies organization, a few players, some ballgirls, etc. With no fanfare, no intro whatsover & no sign of any VIPs the DVD began. Instead of utilizing the theater's full sound system the only sound came from 2 speakers at the sides of the screen. Everyone had to strain to hear the entire time. I get home & watch the news & realize that there was another theater that had the Phillies in it complete with Dave Montgomery addressing the crowd. At no point were we let on that we were being herded into a secondary theater. I had to watch the DVD when I got home to hear what I couldn't at the so called red carpet event. The best TEAM in baseball yet the continued worst treatment of their fans... Thanks for wasting my night.

But dude, the Phillies won the World Series so it's all good. :) Sorry you wasted your night. At least you got the DVD already.

But DUDE I'm supposed to accept that I was lied to and wasted $25 because the players won the world Series?!? I got the DVD 12 hours early- big deal. And just to be clear, I paid just as much for the DVD as anyone buying it 12 hours later. Understand the distinction between the TEAM and the ORGANIZATION.

About Paul Vigna
Paul Vigna still has the seat he wrestled out of the concrete at Connie Mack Stadium parked in the finished basement, a 1980 Phillies championship mirror hanging above it. Now, why he’s kept an autograph of former Flyer Bruce Gamble on a sheet of Hockey Hall of Fame paper is another story. A native of Philly who grew up in Lansdale, he’s an assistant sports editor at the Daily News in charge of special projects who has written two columns related to sports and consumers: View From the Seats and Savvy Consumer.

ABOUT THIS BLOG:
Athletic contests were, for a long time, simply fun and games. Nowadays they’re just a small part of a sports entertainment industry that puts billions of dollars into play and a number of issues into motion. Moneyball indeed. You might be closer to the action than ever before, but that privilege comes at a price - and often it’s beyond what you can afford.

With that as the backdrop we’ll use this blog to dig out stories and swap advice about how the fan experience is changing and what it’s costing you now and in the future. Some of it will educate, some will let you vent. And in a sports panel format, it should allow for a consensus of opinion that can carry some weight.
