For the first time in 10 years last night, Dave Chappelle stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman to talk why he left Chappelle’s Show, his regrets, and where he’s going in the future. Judging by the interview, the time off has resulted in a more mature, clearheaded comedian.
Mostly subdued and relaxed, Chappelle appeared to enjoy his appearance, despite some noticeably tense moments throughout the interview. “Technically, I never quit,” Chappelle quipped when asked about leaving Chappelle’s Show, “I’m seven years late for work.”
Chappelle made his appearance last night to promote a run of nine dates—one with rapper Nas—at Radio City Music Hall. You probably won’t get tickets, but if Chappelle’s appearance on Letterman was any indicator, you’ll have plenty of chances in the future.
