TV and Broadway's Tony Danza will again be hosting the talent show at Northeast High School on Thursday.
The Taxi star, who spent the 2009-10 school year at Northeast, part of it filming Teach: Tony Danza, an A&E "reality" series that followed Danza's experiences teaching English, didn't just forget about the school when the cameras left, Sarah McCloskey, one of the school's two principals, said Thursday. Danza has returned every year since to host the show.
(After his time at the school, Danza also wrote a book, I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I've Ever Had: My Year as a Teacher at Northeast High.)
"This man has been coming back and coming back," McCloskeysaid. "He came into town yesterday afternoon and he'll stay here through Friday."
"In a cash-strapped district like Philadelphia ... we really do appreciate" Danza's fund-raising, which has brought in between $20,000 and $30,000 for the school every year, principal Linda Carroll said.
"We are so appreciative. Because we wouldn’t have certain things otherwise," Carroll said.
Tickets for Thursday's 6 p.m. talent show are still available and will be $10 at the door.
