Showtime dramedy "Weeds" will end after this season, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The half-hour show stars Mary Louise Parker as suburban mom Nancy Botwin, who began the series selling pot to support her family after the sudden death of her husband. But the show soon left the housing development, with the Botwin family defecting to Mexico and beyond, eventually leading to Nancy's imprisonment and release. James Hibberd at EW reports that this season, the show's eighth, will return to the suburbs.
Justin Kirk, who played Botwin's brother-in-law Andy, has found a new job already. He'll star in "Animal Practice" on NBC this fall.
"Weeds" signalled a change for Showtime, ushering a new slate of original programming that was quickly followed by the likes of "Dexter," "The Tudors," and other female-fronted dark comedies in the same vein as "Weeds," like "Nurse Jackie," "The Big C" and "United States of Tara."
The final season begins Sunday, July 1 at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
Oh NO! we love this program. tulipwalk
NO!!!!!!! Ugh this show did run its course. It is time to end. KillerPotato
The program, like many which have been on too long, got just too unbelievable to ring true as it had in the earlier seasons. It is time to put this baby to bed before Nancy Botwin has to use a walker to get around the stage and the kids apply for early retirement. gotedge- Shel Silverstein said it best, "Beware of being the roller when there's nothing left to roll." Mary Louise Parker is smoking! MikeP
This show had one really good season and a few ok seasons but lost its way pretty quickly. I was surprised that it lasted this long. zippy1346
It may have sagged after the first three seasons but compared to 99% of the rest of shows on TV it deserves to continue. KINGOFZED
