Comedy Central has teamed up with Running Press, the Philly-based publisher and member of the Persesus Books Group, to form a partnership to extend the funny-ha-ha channel's brand into the written word.

Their first release will be Denis Leary's "Merry F---ing Christmas," which hits bookstores in October 2012, will tie in with a special airing on Comedy Central. They also hope to develop new, up-and-coming voices on the imprint.

Craig Herman, VP, Associate Publisher of Running Press, referenced the success of former Upper Darby gal Tina Fey's "Bossypants" and Russell Brand's humor memoirs as reasons why Comedy Central wants to expand into print.

Herman said that Comedy Central chose Running Press because the Center City-based publishing house has worked with other Viacom consumer brands, including publshing "South Park" books, and execs were happy with the results.

Comedy Central should partner with some comedians... get rid of the "pundits".
