It came, it went, and came back again, but it looks like Community has finally seen its last day at NBC. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the meta-humor series’ fifth season is its final. The finale aired on April 17.
The show’s creator, Dan Harmon, originally exited the show due to issues with the network, but returned for the final season, which attracted a consistently mild audience:
“Harmon returned to serve as showrunner for the fifth season of the beleaguered comedy, which averaged a 1.1 in the adults 18-49 demo and 3 million total viewers, both off slightly vs. season four. With DVR, the series grew to a 1.5 and 3.7 million total viewers -- both modest upticks for the show that was used as a midseason replacement for the second time.
The series weathered a rocky fourth season after Harmon and EP Chris McKenna's exit. David Guarascio and Moses Port were brought in to serve as showrunners following Harmon's firing and devoted fans of the series complained that the beloved show had lost its voice.”
