The crowd gathered outside Rockefeller Plaza got a very disturbing view of the "Today" show Thursday morning.

Officials say 75-year-old Pak Chong-Mar tried to slit his wrists during the first half of the morning show's live broadcast. Both Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie were outside when the incident occurred at 7:50 a.m. Though NBC cameras did not capture the incident, multiple bystanders caught the scene on their cameras.

Members of the crowd and police say that the emotionally perturbed man was yelling that the government was going to take his house.

The show was promptly relocated from the Plaza to inside the studio. Lauer tweeted about the incident then addressed it on air: "A man out there attempted to harm himself with a knife," he said. "He did manage to cut himself," Lauer added, while the host gave a gratuitous nod to NBC security personnel who quickly contained the man.

The man, who appeared to be in his 50s, received medical attention and has been taken into custody. The Associated Press reports his injuries were "not life-threatening" and his mental condition was evaluated at a hospital.
