HBO's 'True Blood' and 'Leftovers' reach highest ratings since season debuts

Jul 22 (TheWrap.com) - HBO's Sunday shows “True Blood” and “The Leftovers” reached encouraging season highs with their last episodes.

“True Blood” kicked off the night at its 9 p.m. timeslot with 3.6 million viewers. That's the highest viewership for the show since it premiered its final season last month to 4 million viewers. Over the three airings of Episode 705 on Sunday, that number grew to 4.4 million viewers.

The episode marked the return of Eric (Alexander Skarsgaard) to action as he and progeny Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) hunted down Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp).

At 10 p.m., freshman series “The Leftovers” delivered its largest audience since the show's June debut with 1.6 million viewers. Its series premiere in late June totaled 1.8 million viewers. Across the night's three airings, the series attracted 4.4 million total viewers.

Sunday's “Leftovers” (Episode 104) surrounded the drama of a missing baby jesus from its nativity scene.

Ending the night was comedic news show “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.” It bagged 922,000 total viewers at 11 p.m. and 1.1 million viewers for the night. In April, the show attracted 1.1 million viewers with its premiere episode alone.
