Fans of Family Guy were shocked and saddened after the airing of the Nov. 24 episode where beloved character Brian Griffin, the dog, was killed in a car accident.

Well, it looks like we may have a Brian comeback. Entertainment Weekly reports that the martini-slugging cartoon dog is expected to return to the animated Fox comedy on Dec. 15 for an episode titled “Christmas Guy.” A description for the show says: “Stewie devises a mater plan to get the one and only thing he wants for Christmas.” Will Stewie repair his broken time machine and travel back in time to save his best friend?

Brian’s demise left a hole in many fans hearts, so much so that a petition yielding more than 120,000 signatures made the Internet rounds, possibly altering the writers’ choice to eject such the crucial character. Or maybe they had planned it all along. The network has yet to make an official comment on the matter.

Check out the refurbished Family Guy intro that replaces Brian with new dog Vinny.
