Come on, Leonard and Sheldon. Sing along.
Come on, Leonard and Sheldon. Sing along.

Call it revenge of the nerds. Look who got pop’s most clever band, the Barenaked Ladies, to sing its theme song. (see video, below). It’s The Big Bang Theory.

The collaboration is intended to mark the Sept. 19 entry of the sitcom into the lucrative syndication market. (Reruns will air five nights a week on myphl17 in the Philadelphia market.)

In the music video taped on the show’s familiar living room set, you get a taste of the deft keyboard stylings of Simon Helberg (Howard). You’ll also see Kaley Cuoco (Penny) bopping away. But Jim Parsons (Sheldon)? No surprise here: Not a very smooth dancer.

BNL kicks in its patented Ogden Nash-worthy lyrics. One verse begins: “Australopithecus would really have been sick of us.”

Original episodes of CBS’s most popular comedy begin on the network Thurs. Sept. 22 as the fourth season rolls out. That debut is only four days after the Primetime Emmy Awards. The show is up for Outstanding Comedy and its two leads, Parsons and Johnny Galecki, are both nominated.

At next year’s Emmys: Outstanding Theme Song.
