ABC’s second week ratings tumble

A glowering Samuel L. Jackson cannot lift 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'

They came; they saw; they did not come back. That was the (dropping) bottom line for ABC as its new Tuesday night lineup fell steeply the second time around.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finished third in the 8 p.m. time slot with 8.4 million viewers, despite a guest appearance from Samuel L. Jackson. And that was the good news.

Because its drop in the 18-49 year old ratings bracket was only 34 per cent from last week’s debut. .

Trophy Wife (down 39 per cent) and Lucky 7 (down 38 per cent) made that look gentle. The Goldbergs fared best, down only 30 per cent. Go figure.

It was a dark Tuesday everywhere but on NBC. Most of Fox’s sitcom stable saw double digit drops. And CBS’s usually impregnable Tuesday showed vulnerability as well. Even NCIS dipped 6 per cent from the previous week, though Cote de Pablo’s exit in the episode was heavily promoted. Person of Interest fell to an all time low.

Just a reminder: Before the season started, I predicted that Lucky 7 would be the first series cancelled. I love it when a plan comes together.
