ABC's 'Shark Tank' hungry for fresh Philly talent

"The Shark Tank" on ABC is a new reality show where budding entrepreneurs get a chance to make their dreams come true. (ADAM LARKEY / ABC)

Got a great idea for a product or service, but not the financial backing to make it real?

You may want to bring that brainstorm to an open audition for “Shark Tank,” the ABC network’s hit entrepreneurship reality show, when the production team trolls for talent here on Saturday May 11.

Philly’s cool product incubator lab NextFab Studio will host the auditions - the TV show’s only casting call (and yeah, personality counts) in the Northeast.

As tune-ups for the try-outs, NextFab is providing a couple of entrepreneur-focused training events where you can try out your “elevator pitch.”  The April 30 session (5-8 p.m.) at NextFab’s spiffy new 2025 Washington Ave. digs will offer good counseling by folks from StartUpPHL, Wharton professors and more. The Saturday May 4th (5 to 8 p.m. ) coaching session offers feedback from venture capitalists at Ben Franklin Tech Partners (who might want to jump on your idea themselves!). Gizmo Guy’s attended one of NextFab’s prior product pitch sessions and found the feedback quite positive and useful.

The first 500 entrepreneurs lined up on Washington Ave. for  the May 11th “Shark Tank” casting call will be  seen by the show’s production team. Numbered wristbands will be distributed that day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and interviews start at 10 a.m.
