Wawa Welcome America 4th of July Jam lineup announced

Mayor Michael Nutter this morning announced the festival talent for the Wawa Welcome America celebration taking place from Saturday, June 28th to Friday, July 4th, 2014.

Pop stars Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Aloe Blacc, Jennifer Hudson, and The Voice finalist Vicci Martinez will join The Roots onstage during the big fourth of July celebration on The Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The concert will cap off with a traditional fireworks display in the sky.

Mayor Nutter also mentioned that he is trying to work with Jimmy Fallon’s people to see if the star can host his Tonight Show – which is musically backed by The Roots – in Philadelphia for the week leading up to the big holiday celebration.

Here is a preview of what you can expect for the weeklong festival event:

Saturday, June 28 – The Shops at Liberty place host the “largest block party of the summer” with delicious food, live entertainment, and fun activities for all.

Sunday, June 29 – Free admission to the Academy of Natural Sciences.

Wednesday, July 2 – Wawa Hoagie Day will feature a 5-ton hoagie that will feed over 17,000 people. They’ll also honor 50 military heroes and give free access to the National Constitution Center where there will be special Wawa-themed exhibits on display.

Friday, July 4 – The day will kickoff with an Independence Parade featuring mummers, floats, and over 5,000 participants. This will lead into the highly anticipated Jam on the Parkway.
