Barneys has been all over the news recently thanks to a few instances of alleged profiling, in which the store has been accused of asking undercover police officers to verify the validity of black customers' debit cards following lavish purchases.

The bad press comes just before Barneys was set to launch a line with rapper/sports agent/Samsung puppet Jay Z. So, as fellow rapper Kanye West goes straight punk rock and undercuts the power of the Confederate flag as a symbol of hate (he recently wore it to Barneys in Beverly Hills), Jay Z stands by the store amid the controversy, even in the face of an online petition signed by thousands of people urging him to ditch the brand.

On The Daily Show, Jon Stewart discussed the controversy with senior black correspondent, Larry Wilmore, who dubbed Jay Z "Jay Z Penney," chalking the rapper's decision to sell out to The Man as a sign of progress.
