Since 1989, Cali DJ and producer Peanut Butter Wolf has helped keep underground hip-hop culture thriving.

In the mid-90s, PB pioneered indie label Stones Throw Records, which was responsible for producing such artists as J Dilla, Madvillian, Dam-Funk, and Mayer Hawthorne. Stones Throw quickly gained world-wide reputation for leading the industry in the avant-garde hip-hop genre.

Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton is a new feature-length documentary that chronicles the innovative movement fostered by Stones Throw. It’s an official selection at this year’s SXSW Festival but tonight at PhilaMOCA (531 N. 12th St.), Philadelphians will have the opportunity to see it before Austin. The doc features rare concert footage and never-before-seen archive material including video and photographs of the artists who helped make Stones Throw such a vital music institution. It also features interviews from Kanye West, Questlove, Snoop Dogg, Talib Kweli and many more of today’s modern influencers.

Following the film, Peanut Butter Wolf will be doing a live Q&A. Later in the evening he will be spinning a special DJ set at Boot & Saddle (1131 S. Broad St.) with J Rocc, Jonwayne, Knxwledge. Snag tickets for that show here.

Monday, Mar. 3 at PhilaMOCA (531 N. 12th St.)
