The sixteen nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced.

This year's potential class is led by no-brainer Nirvana, who qualify because the Kurt Cobain led trio released its first single, "Love Buzz," 25 years ago in 1988.

Also on the list: recently reunited 1980s rockers The Replacements, Philadelphia pop-soul duo Hall & Oates, incendiary rappers N.W.A., LL Cool J, Deep Purple, Chic, Kiss, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Peter Gabriel (who's already been inducted as a member of Genesis), Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, prog-rockers Yes and rockabilly guitarist Link Wray, New Orleans funk masters The Meters and The Zombies.

Keep in mind, these are not the inductees. They are the nominees. Beginning today and through December 10, fans can vote at rockhall.com/vote or rollingstone.com, and the top five finishers will be factored in - by some mysterious formula - along with the 600 secret ballots of official Rock Hall voters, to see who gets in.

The 2014 induction ceremony will be held in April 2014 in New York.

Nirvana's "Come As You Are," The Replacements "Within Your Reach" and Chic's "Le Freak" are below.
