Coldplay played a highly-energetic brightly-colored sold-out show at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia on Thursday night.
The British four-piece fronted by singer, pianist and sometime guitarist Chris Martin had confetti cut in the shape of birds, butterflies and hearts raining down on fans by the second song in. For an hour and forty five minutes, the group hyper-actively bounded about an enormous stage and even performed two songs towards the end of the room on a makeshift stage set up in a section at the back of the building.
"That's the kind of band we are," Martin quipped, who was wearing a pink shirt at the time as he strummed his way into "Us Against The World." "The kind of band that breaks all the rules, that wears a pink shirt and sings a song at the back of the room."
As fans entered the building, they were handed woven "Xylobands" to wear around their wrists, which were lit up by a wireless signal at various points during the show, eliminating the need to hold up cell phones or lighters. The hashtag #Coldplayfilm included on the recyclable bands would make it seem the audience participation light show will potentially be part of an upcoming Coldplay concert movie.
Wolf Gang and Robyn opened the show. Coldplay's set list is below. A full review will be up online on Friday and in Saturday's Inquirer. Coldplay are back at the Wells Fargo on Friday night.
Mylo Xyloto / Hurts Like Heaven / In My Place / Major Minus / Lovers In Japan / The Scientist / Yellow / Violet Hill / God Put A Smile Upon Your Face / Princess Of China / Up In Flames / Warning Sign / Don’t Let It Break Your Heart / Viva La Vida / Charlie Brown / Paradise / Us Against The World / Speed of Sound / Clocks / Fix You / Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall

best show ever last night...... wahoos32
Best show ever? Well all you had to do was go the night before or the night after and you would see THE SAME best show again, and again and again. No respect for people who play the SAME show night after night - no excuse at all. that being said they do have some very good songs, but the SAME show every day? Doesn't that get boring for them? relaxUhadURchance- Derrrrrrrrrr, so you're touring the World, you're the biggest and best on the Planet at the mo, you have a catalogue of about eighty songs, and errrrrrrrrr, guess what, you suspect that as most fans will only get one chance to see you, it will be the best performance possible, made up of the best and most favourite songs.
Fans that want to go more than once not only won't mind seeing the same set-list, although if you do just a little research, it does vary a little from concert to concert, they will be pleased for the other fans that they are seeing the very best. I've seen them twice in the UK, and beleive me the boys look anything but bored. guysyouputasmileonmyface - As someone who has seent them 3 times before on 3 separate tours, i have to say this set list is pretty weak. I understand playing your new album but there was a severe lack of anything off of Viva La Vida, and X&Y. They mixed in some of the better Rush of Blood songs though which is their strongests but idk, weak setlist in my opinion.
@relaxUhadURchance I was surprised to see they are playing the same exact setlist with each show on this tour. Not sure what the rationale behind this idea is. Perhaps they want to guarantee that the fans from around the world are getting the same experience. I agree with you though, it has to get old for them after a while. I like the surprise aspect of new songs with each show.
@Hank Moody - the setlist was a bit strange. I was happy they played Warning Sign, but also surprised they stayed away from Parachutes. It must be tough though considering they are touring off of the new album. Hoping that they tour again before another album and tweak the setlist in favor of their past successes.

Very anodine report on what I can be sure, even though I wasn't there, would have been just brilliant.
I have been to both indoor M.E.N. Arena Manchester, 15,000 peeps, and outdoor Ricoh Coventry, 40,000 peeps, and I can tell you both were sensational.
This report could have gone into a little more depth, with comments about the sing alongs, the Xylobands experience, etc, but I guess if you're not that interested, your not really going to bother!!!
So when you guys have finished, us Brits would like our boys back, please. guysyouputasmileonmyface
