Billy Joel will play Citizens Bank Park for a fourth straight year

Billy Joel will play Citizens Bank Park in September.

Billy Joel playing a summer show at Citizens Bank Park is becoming somewhat of a tradition. He'll play the home of the Phillies for the fourth consecutive year on Saturday, Sept. 9. Joel is the first artist to hold such a residency. Each of his previous three residencies has sold out.

That's not all: Philadelphia will go all out to honor the Long Island-raised Piano Man. To mark Joel's performance, the Phillies will raise a banner at CBP in honor of Joel's record, making him the first musician who will be commemorated like a player by the organization.

Tickets will be available at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, via Ticketmaster.com or by-phone at 800-745-3000.

Mayor Kenney will also proclaim Sept. 9 as Billy Joel Day in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia was a major part of Joel's genesis as a recording artist. His fame spread after then-WMMR DJ, current Inquirer/Daily News/Philly.com Gizmo Guy Jon Takiff started playing a live version of "Captain Jack" on the radio. According to Billy Joel: The Definitive Biography, after Takiff starting playing the song, it became the most-requested track in the station's history.
