Alan Myers, Devo drummer, dies of cancer

Alan Myers, one of the most well known drummers for Devo, passed away on Monday after battling cancer.

Myers came to the group in 1976 to replace Jim Mothersbaugh and played with the band for a decade–well into Devo’s commercial peak with ‘Whip It.”

He left the band in 1986. Soon, he was replaced by Sparks’ David Kendrick but continued performing and playing music with his LA-based group Skyline Electric along with his wife Christine.

Fellow Devo vocalist, Gerald Casale, tweeted early this morning: “Alan, you were the best - a human metronome and then some. A once in a lifetime find thanks to Bob Mothersbaugh. U were born to drum Devo!”

There is no word yet on the type of cancer Myers had.
