Style Weekly is reporting that David M. Brockie, the frontman and vocalist of famous satirical thrash metal band GWAR, has been found dead.

Brockie, best known by his band name Oderus Urungus, was discovered dead by his roommate in his Virginia home late Sunday afternoon. The band just recently marked their 30th anniversary and had a concert scheduled in August for the band’s fifth annual Gwar-B-Q at Hadad’s Lake in Richmond, Va.

The band’s bassist Mike Bishop wrote this in regards to David’s death:

“Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known. He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art.

His penchant for scatological humors belied a lucid wit. He was a criminally underrated lyricist and hard rock vocalist, one of the best, ever! A great front man, a great painter, writer, he was also a hell of a bass guitarist. I loved him. He was capable of great empathy and had a real sense of justice.”

GWAR is known well for their intense, costumed, crass, and often gross live performances. Their most recent album, Battle Maximus, was released last year.

The latest police report filed at 8:21 a.m. on Monday revealed that Richmond officials do not suspect foul play as a cause of death. David was 50.
