Will Smith/M. Night Shyamalan movie plot details revealed

POSTED: Monday, July 2, 2012, 4:49 PM
Sharon Pinkenson, head of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, with M. Night Shyamalan, at a party at his house Saturday toasting her for her two decades running the office.

"After Earth," the Will Smith/M. Night Shyamalan collaboration that filmed in the area earlier, has been veiled in secrecy, like most of Shyamalan's work. But a plot has emerged from a description for the "After Earth" panel at next week's San Diego Comic-Con.

Thanks to Jo Blo for the head's up:

“In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.”

Hmm...General Cypher Raige? That's a name if we ever heard one. What do you think? Another Shyamalan disappointment or sci-fi flick to look forward to? "After Earth" is scheduled to hit theaters June 7, 2013.

MNight hasnt made a good movie in years and then he will make this movie to feature the talentless Jaden Smith. Will Smith is box office gold but he wont be on the screen long enough to save MNight from himself.....this is a cant miss plan...lol

Unfortunately, probably another dud. I loved The Sixth Sense and liked Signs a lot. Other than those two, nah.

I was always surprised Will Smith was box office gold. A large majority of his characters can be inter-changed with his different movies and nobody would know.

Meaning: Will Smith is not that good of an actor.

Why would Will Smith want to do a Tarentino movie when he could do another one of this guy's bombs?

ugh... I'll be at SDCC next week, and I expect the nerd rage regarding this movie to flow quite freely. On the flip side, I'm hoping the titles we're announcing recieves a decent reception (the fans, they can be fickle).

Ha! Wow, folks. I liked Signs, The Village, The Sixth Sense and The Happening. Granted, for every gem there is going to be a bomb or two.

I consider Shyamalan to be a complete fraud at this point. He made ONE good movie (Sixth Sense)and every movie after has gotten worse and worse. He was handed keys to the wildly popular "Last Airbender" which could have been a great and very profitable three movie series but ruined the the first movie so much that it has been scraped. I will NEVER spend another nickel to see anything this over rated loser is involved in. My guess is even Will Smith and son won;t be able to save this lastest movie from flopping either.

Did you read the plot summary? Sounds like one of the dummest plots in history. Bad director, horrible actors but I bet the masses will pay to go see it. Maybe our country really is as dumb as others think we are.

ugh!! Sounds weak. Both should deserve better. Will Smith has the possible to become a Scifi ICON..Knight needs to re-emerge his early creative juice.

Jaden Smith is all I need to hear to know that this movie will be insufferably bad.
