The nominees for the 89th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning, and one Philadelpha-connected film production company’s work received nods for several awards, including one for best picture.
Neo-western Hell or High Water received nominations for best supporting actor (Jeff Bridges), best original screenplay, best editing, and best picture. The flick, directed by David Mackenzie, tells the story of two brothers as they conduct several bank robberies in order to save their family’ ranch from being foreclosed.
The film was produced by the Los Angeles-based Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, a film production company started by Philadelphia philanthropist Sidney Kimmel in 2004. The award will be presented to Carla Hacken, president of production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, and Julie Yorn, head of film and TV production at LBI Entertainment.
The 89th Academy Awards will air Sunday, Feb. 26 on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel will host.
