With his brief cameo alongside other Flyers players in Judd Apatow's This Is 40, Scott Hartnell was naturally inclined to include the film to his list of favorite movies and shows in 2012. But what about his other nine picks?
The Flyers forward's had more time this year to catch up on entertainment provided the situation with the NHL lockout. He went head-to-head last week with former teammate James van Riemsdyk to best him in a contest over who could raise the most money for Hurricane Sandy victims, engaging his fans to join the fun. After all, Hartnell's known for his outgoing sense of humor and infectious laugh, so it's no surprise that he has a soft spot for comedy shows like 30 Rock and Modern Family.
But he has a fine palate for anxiety-inducing, critically-acclaimed flicks, too. Denzel Washington's Flight and Ben Affleck's Argo were among his favorite films this year. 8. Trouble With the Curve
Although critic Gary Thompson calls this film "predictable," he adds that it gives audiences, "something reassuringly familiar, powered by an all-star lineup." Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams breathe life into this movie. Read his review, here.
7. Breaking Bad
TV critic Ellen Gray calls Breaking Bad, "a series about a world in which I'd never choose to live." She adds, "[It] has plenty to say about the things humans are capable of and, like most great series, it rewards the careful viewer." 6. Skyfall

5. Argo
Critic Steven Rea gave this Ben Affleck-directed film 3.5 stars, calling it, "a taut and terrifically crazy tale." We all know how the story of the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis ends, but it still had us sweating bullets and gripping our seats at the theater. Read his review, here.
4. This is 40
Judd Apatow directs this comedy about a mid-life marriage that's stagnated between Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd's characters. Hartnell admits he included this in his list, "'cause the Flyers are in it." As in himself. Read the review, here.
3. Revenge
Who doesn't love the soapy, dramatic qualities of this ABC primetime show? Now in its second season, Revenge revels behind the guise of Emily Van Camp's doe-eyed stare (pictured below), but its surprising twists and turns have fans anticipating more each week.
2. Modern Family
Families are dysfunctional, but Modern Family is written and executed in a way that turns embarrassing somewhat real-life scenarios into really funny episodes. The characters are charming, the situations are ridiculous, and we tune in season-after-season for more laughs.
1. Flight
Steven Rea says Denzel Washington is at his best in Flight, a film about addiction, with a deeper message with regards to humanity. Rea writes, "Flight examines the nature of faith - and the failures and flaws of human beings, plagued by self-deception, self-destruction."
