Rumors about a followup to Tim Burton’s 1988 hit, Beetlejuice, have been flying since at least late last year, with Wynona Ryder hinting that she’d been working on a sequel in conjunction with news that Burton was in talks with Warner Brothers. This week, though, it’s been all but confirmed.

Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, revealed that he’s been talking with Tim Burton recently about going forward with a Beetlejuice sequel, saying that the titular role is “the one thing I’d like to do again.” Keaton spilled the means at a junket for his latest role in Robocop

"I've emailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff until relatively recently," Keaton said. "I always said that [Beetlejuice] is the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another. Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away, we've talked to each other, and emailed each other, and if he's in, it's going to be hard not to be in."

If Keaton can be taken at his word, then this one is a go. Ryder, for her part, expressed a similar level of interest in reprising her role as Lydia Deetz, saying that she “would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”

With any luck, we’ll find out too. The real prize, though, would be the return of the animated series spinoff—but let's not push it.
