Madea to play Alex Cross? Tyler Perry, he's everywhere

Tyler Perry, the one-man film studio (he writes! he directs! he stars!), is everywhere.

There's the new poster for Madea's Big Happy Family (a deadpan parody of the one-sheets for The Queen and Black Swan , featuring himself as the eponymous greyhair in a housecoat).

There's the announcement that Perry will star as Alex Cross, the detective/hero of James Patterson mysteries including Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, in a reboot of what once was Morgan Freeman's movie franchise. I, Alex Cross, once expected to star frequent Perry actor Idris Elba, is the name of the reboot.

And there's Kenan Thompson's wickedly funny impersonation of Perry on Saturday Night Live, where Thompson has the multimedia king laughing all the way to the bank despite the Academy snub of his Oscar- bait film, For Colored Girls. "Some people told me the title sounded like a sign over a drinking fountain in the 1950s."

I'm an admirer, if not an all-out fan, of Perry. His movies feature such manic swings from comedy to melodrma that I think they should come with emotional seatbelt. But the same can be said of films by Pedro Almodovar. Your thoughts about Perry?
