Some solid cast members have been named for the upcoming James Brown biopic. Dan Akroyd and Jill Scott are the latest talents attached to Get On Up, a film to be directed and produced by Tate Taylor (known for The Help).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Philly-bred chick Scott will be playing one of James Brown’s three wives – a part that was written specifically for her. She’ll play opposite Chadwick Boseman, who has been selected to play the Godfather of Soul. Boseman is best known for his breakout role as Jackie Robinson in 42. Akroyd will balance the cast and will take on the role of Ben Bart, the president of Universal Attractions, the agency that represented brown for most of his career. Viola Davis (The Help), Octavia Spencer (The Help) and Lennie James (Snatch) are also some noteworthy cast members.

The film will chronicle the epic rise and fall of one of music’s greatest performers – fame, drug addiction, domestic violence, and money problems. The movie is set for an Oct. 17, 2014 release.
