Ah, Diana Prince. Few living actresses can portray the DC Comics’ version of the uber-woman properly, let alone her superhero identity, Wonder Woman. Fortunately, Israeli model and Fast & Furious actress Gal Gadot is up for the task.

Warner Bros. announced today that Gadot, 28, signed on for Zack Snyder’s upcoming ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ film, the as-yet-untitled follow-up to last year’s Man of Steel.  Set for a July 17, 2015 release, Snyder’s next chapter in the DC film universe stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Henry Cavill in his sophomore stint as Superman.

Gadot’s portrayal of Diana Prince represents a huge boost for the character, and the largest push to establish her as the most prevalent female character in the DC universe since Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman pilot failed to make it to TV last year. Before that, the character hadn’t been touched in live-action since Lynda Carter played her in the 1970s.

Snyder, for his part, announced his reasoning behind expanding Wonder Woman’s place in the upcoming film:

"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature-film incarnation of this beloved character."

Fitting, then, that Wonder Woman should be a former Miss Universe contestant. Even more fitting that she has two years of experience in the Israeli Military.

Evildoers beware.
