6ABC sports anchor Keith Russell informed Action News management Friday afternoon that he will be leaving the station July 31.
We're told that Russell, a West Oak Lane native and Central High graduate, is heading to Washington, D.C. for a new opportunity, though we're not yet certain whether it's a job in television or not.
6ABC News Director Tom Davis emailed staffers today to announce Russell's departure and said his last day is July 31.
However, we hear Russell, who came to 6ABC in 2005 after working 6 years at ESPN, might not be seen again on Action News.
We were unable to reach Russell for comment.

I was amazed that a top news station like Action News would keep these two around for so long. They both seem like nice people, but they are absolutely unwatchable. - Some of the comments are incredibly mean. Keith was a likable guy. but he wasted too much time with the drama and not enough time being a sports reporter. I wish him well. Jamie, on the other hand is a pleasure to watch. She always as a big smile and knows her sports.
