Rob Zombie will write, direct and produce “Broad Street Bullies,” a film about the mid-1970's Stanley Cup winning Flyers, reports Deadline.com.
Zombie, the former White Zombie musician who became a successful horror filmmaker with “House Of 1000 Corpses” and “Halloween,” tells the website that he has the rights to the Flyers story and the full support of the Flyers organization.
“The backdrop of the turbulent year of 1974 is perfect for this ‘stranger than fiction’ sports tale,” Zombie told Deadline.com’s Mike Fleming.
“The great Rob Zombie making a drama feature film about the Broad Street Bullies is exciting and thrilling for all of us! I look forward to seeing it,” said Flyers great and team exec Bobby Clarke when contacted by Deadline.com.
We are working to get additional information from the Flyers organization. Last year HBO debuted an hourlong documentary film also using the "Broad Street Bullies" name.
April Fool's Day was 2 1/2 months ago! Ohmy
Rob Zombie is a huge talent and bigger hockey fan! Saw him at Game 5 of the Finals this year...with his interest in hockey and the ability to tell a great horror story (like the Flyers not winning a cup in forever), this should be a blast! bvl390- He needs to shoot a Grind-house style movie. A story about Jerry Sandusky as the evil camp counselor who catches a bad decision trying slap-skin on Jason Vorhees up at Camp Crystal Lake. EGGHEAD.

GREAT IDEA!
I have been thinking about this project for years. Do it while the real Bullies are still alive and mix in a few docu-drama clips.
And get that pissed off Phil Esposito interview he gave from 74' to fire up the eulogy at the end.
Music from ELO and CCR would seem appropriate.
Zombies the perfect zany director for this kind of Philly Pulp Fiction.
"The Grass is always REDDER over Broad Street"
and
p.s.
hire Tony Shalhoub to play Fred "The Fog" Shero. sdeens
Who will play Gene Hart? Eskin?? STEVE5444- I wouldn't let Eskin drive the Zamboni in the movie - wait - that's what I want to do!

More likely Clarke quote: "I dunno anything abouwt that... sounds like a bleeping stupid bleeping idea. What's this bleeping guy's name, Zamboni?" Hopefully, Zombie casts Eric Lindros to play Pete Stemkowski. wmichael
