Report: Mary Tyler Moore dead at age 80

Actress Mary Tyler Moore died Wednesday after being admitted to a Connecticut hospital in “grave condition," according to a report.

Her representative released this statement to the media:

As TMZ reports, Moore, 80, suffered from “a number of health problems” and had recently “become critical.” Family members reportedly visited the star in the hospital on Wednesday to say goodbye.

Moore had fought a long battle with diabetes. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1966 when she was 33. In 2014, reports emerged that the actress was “nearly blind” as a result of the disease. Moore also had brain surgery in 2011 to remove a meningioma tumor.

The actress was known for her role as Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, as well as Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show. Film-wise, Moore appeared in notable movies like Thoroughly Modern Millie in 1967, and Ordinary People in 1980, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

Moore’s work had earned her seven Emmy awards throughout her career. Most recently, the actress appeared as Diane in several episodes of TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland, which starred former Mary Tyler Moore Show co-star Betty White. That show ran on the network from 2011 to 2013.
